Stand with Red Rocks Rwanda.
At the foot of the Virunga volcanoes, farming communities share their land with mountain gorillas. Red Rocks Initiative for Sustainable Development has spent over a decade making that partnership pay: schools, wetlands, gardens, small business, and a festival that seats village elders beside conservation funders. This appeal raises funds for that work. Your money goes to Red Rocks directly. We hold none of it.
Musanze, where the gorillas' neighbours farm.
Red Rocks Initiative for Sustainable Development is a community-based organisation in Musanze, Rwanda, inside the Virunga Massif that spans Rwanda, Uganda and the DR Congo. Their position is simple and hard-won: conservation lasts when the people living closest to nature have a real role in protecting it, and a real stake in its success.
Wildlife & Ecosystems
Forest and wetland protection, habitat restoration and wildlife education led by residents.
Environmental Learning
Conservation clubs, tree planting and research field visits for schools in Musanze.
Women & Youth Enterprise
Banana-bark basketry, farming and tourism income, with women and youth first in line.
Community-Based Tourism
Village experiences and cultural exchange that put tourism revenue in household hands.
Every amount has a job.
Indicative examples from Red Rocks' programmes. Unrestricted gifts go to the quarter's priorities, and Red Rocks reports on them.
A conservation club term
Materials and tree seedlings for one learner, one full term.
A wetland learning walk
One class, one guided day of birdwatching and field research.
A weaver's workspace
Materials and market access for one banana-bark basket artisan.
A youth pitch season
One young entrepreneur through to the community showcase.
Where it is needed most
Trees, gardens, dialogue circles and culture: the work that holds the rest together.

The organisation behind this appeal
Ubuntu Across Boarders NPC
A registered South African non-profit company, Reg. No. 2020/721556/08, established 12 September 2020 and in good standing with annual returns filed. We champion partners whose work matches our four programmes. We publish how every appeal runs before it opens, and report after it closes. In this appeal we are the megaphone, not the recipient.
Cardinale Matill, Co-Founder & Director
Tourism industry professional and chair of this appeal. Cardi has worked directly with the Red Rocks community on their cultural festival platform, and she answers our WhatsApp line personally. Message her on WhatsApp with any question before you give.
See her Facebook profile before you give. The person behind the appeal is public.
“Conservation lasts when people are part of it.”Red Rocks Initiative for Sustainable Development
Red Rocks reports to their donors and their community. We publish their updates on this page as they arrive, so you can see exactly what your gift held up. Your gift is held by many hands: the weaver's, the teacher's, the ranger's, the grandmother's. When you give today, you join them.

Before you give
Why do you not collect the money?
Direct giving removes overhead, delay and doubt. Your gift reaches Red Rocks in full and your receipt comes from them. Our role is to raise the standard and the audience, not the bank account.
Is my gift tax deductible?
Receipts follow the terms of Red Rocks and their payment providers. For our own programmes we are working toward SARS PBO status under Section 18A, and we will publish it here the day it is granted.
How do I know this is legitimate?
We are a registered non-profit company, 2020/721556/08, in good standing with annual returns filed. Red Rocks has run community conservation and the Red Rocks Cultural Festival in Musanze since 2013. We link only to their official site, their official PayPal button and their own bank details. Never to third-party collectors.
I have paid. What now?
WhatsApp Greg Bakunzi's team on +250 783 830 974 so they can acknowledge you, or message us and we will pass it on. Then share this page with the people you know who care about Rwanda. Appeals travel by word of mouth.
Can I give in kind, or volunteer for Red Rocks?
Yes. Contact Red Rocks on the same WhatsApp number for partnerships, research visits and tourism collaborations, or message Cardi and she will introduce you personally.
